Why the Internet Is Getting Tired of Generic AI Content
What bothers me most about this kind of content is not that it was made with AI. It is that it often feels like no one had a reason to write it.
The structure may be clear. The title may be clickable. The advice may even be useful. But there is no visible thought behind it.
Very often, authors seem to think that if they produce useful content in the form of guides, instructions, or explainers, that alone is enough. Sometimes the title is clickable, sometimes the structure is neat, but the text still turns into a compilation of information that AI can easily provide. And in many cases, there is no authorial position behind it.
What I mean by authorship and position
By authorial position, I do not mean personality for the sake of personality. I mean judgment.
The author sees a trend, problem, or situation and makes a clear decision about it: what matters, what is missing, what is being misunderstood, or why the common explanation is too thin. What matters is not whether the position is positive or negative. What matters is that the subject is being critically evaluated.
Without that, the text often feels like it was written to fill space, not because the author had something to say.
AI did not create the problem, but it made it much bigger
I think AI changed this situation mostly through scale. It became much easier to produce more content, in more formats, across more platforms, in much less time. So the main shift, for me, is not that AI writes. It is that AI dramatically accelerates production.
That is where I see the core shift. The problem is because it makes it much easier to flood the internet with content that is structurally correct, broadly useful, and completely replaceable.
This is also why the discussion around so-called AI slop matters. According to the article AI Slop Explained: Meaningless Content in 2026, more than 20% of YouTube content shown to new users now falls into the low-value, AI-generated category. The term “AI slop” became useful because it names something people already notice: a growing layer of low-value content that looks finished but feels empty. This signals how visible AI slop has become at scale. Whether people use that exact term or not, the broader point is hard to ignore: content is now being produced at a speed and volume that make sameness much more visible.
People are getting tired of it
I do think people are getting tired of AI content. You can see this very often on Reddit, for example. Reddit makes this fatigue especially visible because the platform depends on personal specificity. People go there for someone’s exact problem, exact situation, exact explanation. When a post sounds generated, that contract disappears.
That reaction makes sense, especially on a platform like Reddit, because the whole idea of Reddit was built around the experience and writing of a specific person. People go there for someone’s actual situation, problem, explanation, or opinion. When posts are created with AI, that specificity starts to disappear, and that harms both the platform and the quality of what people are reading there.
This is why I do not think the issue is just style. It is also about what kind of internet people are left with when more and more text is produced without lived perspective behind it.

I do not agree that AI content should not exist at all
At the same time, I do not agree with the idea that AI content should not exist in principle. That is too simplistic. What matters here is balance.
If the author clearly knows what they want to say and already has a point of view of their own, then AI can absolutely shorten some of the stages that used to take a huge amount of time. It can help brainstorm an idea, expand a thought, or narrow it down. In that sense, AI can be a very useful tool for content creation.
So I would not say that AI itself is bad. I would say it is a tool for reducing some standard, repetitive tasks.
But AI should not become the goal in itself.
That is where the real problem begins. If you want to create content and simply ask AI to generate something, while doing no real analysis, control, or correction, then what you get in the end will often be smooth, correct content. It may look fine. It may even seem useful. But it will still be flat.
What is missing is not grammar or structure. It is the author’s thinking.

Why usefulness alone is no longer enough

The bigger issue is homogeneity
This is also where the issue becomes larger than writing itself. The problem is not only that many texts sound similar. It is that the whole environment starts to feel culturally flattened. If the same tools are used to generate the same kinds of outputs from the same common patterns, then sameness stops being a flaw of individual texts and starts becoming a property of the internet itself.

What matters now
I do not think people are rejecting AI as a technology. I think they are rejecting content that feels like no one really stood behind it.
The real issue is that many people now use it without bringing any original thought into the process. They use it not to support thinking, but to replace it.
And when that happens, what gets produced is just correct, generic content.
Maybe that is why authorial position matters more now. Once everyone can produce something polished, polish stops being what makes content valuable. What matters more is whether there is critical evaluation, a clear point of view, and a reason this text had to be written by this person.
That is the real difference.
